Norris, Frank: The Octopus. v1. 06 Aug. 07

I encountered the works of Frank Norris as an undergraduate student and loved his writing. He's known for the realism and naturalism in his writings. I read this book about 20-odd years ago. He has a narrative sweep to his writing that keeps a reader turning the pages. I once had a complete set of his works, published at the turn of the 20th Century. (Norris died at age 32; I think it was in 1902.)

Here's a quote from the Wik:

"The Octopus: The Epic Of The Wheat A California Story is a 1901 novel by Frank Norris. It describes the raising of wheat in California, and conflict between the wheat growers and a railway company. Norris was inspired by role of the Southern Pacific Railroad in events surrounding the Mussel Slough Tragedy. It depicts the tension between the corrupt railroad and the ranchers and the ranchers' League."

I hope you like it.
