One option if you have a compatible netbook is to switch the screen out for one of the PixelQi ones. It's not eInk, but looks very readable in sunlight.
I've got a samsung n130 and have toyed with the idea of putting one of those on for writing outside in the summer. Screens available rom makershed Not cheap but then new products never are
