Huh?
No power outages here, just busy with work, kids, parental tech support, and a brother who keeps needing advice on the stats for his dissertation. Which then his adviser doesn't like-- the adviser wants simpler stats. Silly me. Just because the data are interdependent I though we could use a test that actually took advantage of that feature for increased power. Adviser just wants a simple comparison of means with margin of error. Which I don't think is appropriate with categorical data, but hey, I'm not on the dissertation committee. Oh, wait, this isn't the rant thread, is it? Thank you to everyone who expressed concern about the wild weather we're having up here. No excitement in my immediate vicinity, but a few miles west of here there was quite the swath of devastation. Work was exciting yesterday. Sirens kept going off and loudspeakers were telling us that there was severe weather and we should "seek shelter immediately." So what do the oversized monkeys I work with do? Go out and stare at the sky. Heh. Now, what was this about a t-shirt you were wanting? Or was it a picture of Queen Z fast-forwarded to 80+ years with a ratty unwashed shirt you were after? I don't normally take commissions of that type.... |

I so wanted to work that into my dissertation defense but alas I ran out of steam and never finished the darn thing. No worries. 27 more working days until retirement. |

Well, if you want to group the data by participants, it would be heteroscedastic, I suppose, but I don't know how meaningful that would be given his experimental design. Such as it is. The point being that you can only generate a mean by grouping by participants, but that wasn't the point of his study, and he shouldn't be trying to generate any kind of mean from what are, simply, categorical data.
