I'm sure it would be fascinating if we could track back the versions of a document from copy to copy. Digital genealogy... With strange mutations along the way

now here's a truly terrifying thought... what if Michele L has gotten all of the job offers intended for you over the years?

What if, what if, what if Michele is really Michael ? (you know what spell-checkers are like)

On a more serious note.... PDFs can have a title field. If you right click it on a PC and choose properties, there should be a "PDF" tab that will show the info on it. You might be able to change it on the summary tab, but it may not affect the PDF itself, you'll probably need a full blown PDF editor to do it. |

Now I'm wondering what it looks like on other people's computers... on my other computer, I didn't see hide nor hair of these insiduous names. It only showed up when I uploaded it to my reader, and now it shows it on the blue bar on the top of the pdf (not the actual document). it's time like this that I wish I weren't such a technoidiot. |

Yep, that's how I knew Michele L was the title and Tom Liberty the author. I couldn't change them. It gave me convuluted directions for changing it. I wasn't in the mood. Plus, I just couldn't understand them

But you still haven't told us how you created your PDF, or did I miss that too? |

Well, I wish I could remember.... it's a resume that I've been just updating for a while! It's been through probably 5 computers, saved as various forms of word or openoffice or neoffice, and exported as a pdf more than once. I'm looking at one of the earlier version right now, but I can't even find the properties.
Ok, I did a lot of work on it (it's been a good half hour since I started this text) and this resume that I based my current resume on was "printed" as pdf and the author is my husband (it's his computer) and the title is resume.pdf. So I still don't know where Michele came from, but she must have come from my work computer... really bizarre, since I've been the only person to use that computer (I got it new 4 years ago, and it's been in my hot little hands ever since!). Now i'm more confused! |

Well OK then, which program do you use to update it?

Oops, sorry, I missed half of you reply again If you "print" as pdf, then the pdf is not the original file. Is the original file a Word file? Did you check the properties of the Word file?

I tried to check the original word file and couldn't figure it out (it opened as a trial docx file and I could *not* figure that program out! None of the controls were like neooffice, my most used program.. It's neooffice I used to do the recent editing-- in 2010)
