Unable to reset my pw2 on firmware 5.6.1.0.6

Hi guys,
Tried searching for my problem but seems like I am the only one facing this problem.

I have a kindle pw2
The firmware is 5.6.1.0.2

I m unable to reset the device. Whenever I reset it. It goes back into some old setting .

The process is like
1. Reset kindle (used all possible methods). Tried deregisteration as well. No fun
2. Device reboots.
3. All books are on device. Forgotten wi fi
4. Shows device registered in my name (without me even entering any details)
5. I enter wi fi password, the device is now de registered, but all books still on my device. Even if I delete books one by one (or from pc), the books keep reappearing.
6. Registered the device to a different Amazon account. All the books are still on the device.
7. New side loaded books are removed automatically.
8. If I restart(not reset) the device the device reverts back to point 3.
9. The firmware update is showing greyed out.
10. Tried manual update but the device keeps deleting the update (5.6.5).


So friends, help me by either pointing to some new method. I can open the device but I need help my be in form of some video or step by step guide.

That sounds very much like failure of the flash memory.

The changes seen in what is stored (or not stored) are the result of the system caching disk operations.
Anything which clears the cache (such as restarting) shows the (un-changed) content of the flash.

One thing worth doing, check the serial number of your device (if the kindle isn't working, you can find it on your Amazon account page) against this table:

Just on the chance that your device isn't a PW-2 (which would explain only why the 5.6.5 update disappears, not the rest).

Thanks a lot for the quick revert.
Going through the above threads, it seems my kindle paperwhite has seen its last. Is there any way to restore the flash memory?

I double checked, my pw serial starts with 9017, so effectively a pw 2.

It would be great is you can guide me further..

Thanks for confirming we are working on the device we thought we where.

We could probably learn more about what is happening with a serial port, but that is probably not worth the effort unless you already have everything you would need.

I don't think we can fix it.
On the other hand, I don't think we can make it worse.

Some things to try -
both depend on a working USB storage area, so none of these may work, but they are easy to try.

Try to get a copy of the system logs -
home -> search -> enter (exactly):
;dm
The semi-colon is part of the command (;dump messages) -
A set of new text documents should show up (the logs) -
Hook-up the USB cable and see if you can copy them off the device.
(That may or may not be possible.)
If you get them, zip them up and attach to a post here.

Add the following named file to the top of USB storage:
DO_FACTORY_RESTORE
All caps, no extension, no content.
Then re-boot the device (hold power button for more than 20 seconds).
If it seems to hang while displaying the boy under a tree, then it is trying to recover the flash storage.
Put it on a wall charger and wait a week to 10 days (with a bad flash device, it can take that long).
