Device: Kobo Touch
Can't detect Kobo Touch - 2.58 on Windows 7

I can see the device at the explorer level. I saw in the driveinfo.calibre file on the device that the last time it worked was 2.51 so I tried downgrading, but that didn't help. From the log it seems like there is something odd happening with the OS not letting Calibre grab the drive.

Here's the log:

Did you try following the instruction in the last line of that log?

Error5 says it sees the device, but is not allowed the storage (at this time)

That suggests the device is either mounted as read only, or the account doesn't have permissions to access the device properly. You said you can see the device in explorer, but can you change a file on it?

In any case, theducks advice is the first thing to do. Reboot the PC and the device and see what happens.

I had created a folder on the device yesterday through the explorer and I did reboot both pc and reader again this morning, still no dice.. But I was also able to load books through my Mac, so it's pretty clear it's some problem with Calibre and Windows filesystem management.

BUT... Figured it was some sort of permissions problem, so on Windows I started Calibre as Administrator (from the right click menu) and now it is able to grab the reader and manage it.

What's weird is in the "properties" view on Windows I don't have any options to change the ownership of the the Kobo filesystem. I'll see if I have more options to give universal ownership when I have the reader mounted on my Mac or maybe firing up a shell on Windows.

So, resolved, sort of. Thanks for the suggestions...
