New dictionaries for kobo (no limits)

Try adding it like this:

Suffix | Name              | ExtraLocales
-es-es | Español - Español | nothing special required

The Kobo already recognises the 'es' locale as Español. If it works, you would end up with two entries in your dictionary drop-down menu:
Español (the Kobo default Spanish)
Español - Español (your additional custom Spanish)

Hello everyone,

I have a Kobo Aura edition 2 (don't know V1 or V2). Firmware 4.8.11073 (b628114af7).


Just tried but got some troubles. Everything goes well but at the end, I see my dictionaries but 0 Bytes, they don't work.

1. When I did the firmware update, I couldn't add the patch. But in the linnickel, there was already one and I put yes on this Extra dictionary patch.
2. Checked my names in the .conf were exactly the same than in my .sqlite database. (+ suffix, ...).
3. Checked Extra:_XX (i use f1, f2 as name for french dictionaries).
4. Restart Ebook


I think my problem is when I have to put the patch in my libnickel. Got some error when I start the bat file. That's why I use the default patch in this file.

EDIT : works fine after reader 30times my manipulation... Did a copy-paste of the size of the dictionary and had "." with my number... That's why it didn't work

If your question is a simple "can I copy file xxx.yyy to dicthtml-en-it.zip, place it in the Kobo's dictionary directory" and be good to go, then I'm 99.999999% sure the answer is "No".

If your question is "Can it be done if I'm technically able and prepared to put in whatever effort is required?" then the answer is "Maybe". If the latter then the next questions would be:

• Is the Sony dictionary encrypted and, if so, can you decrypt it?
• What format is the Sony dictionary and can you extract its content in human-readable form?

If the answer to both follow-up questions is "Yes" then the answer to your original question is that it is probably possible to wrangle the Sony format into Kobo format. It will take time and effort on your part, but the Kobo dictionary structure is quite simple and is well documented elsewhere in this forum.

I did everything right, tried to install english - serbian dictionary, zip file was originally named eng-serb, but i changed it to en-sr by the instructions here...it is installed but Kobo see it as english - english when i try to use it and says "you don't have an english dictionary installed"

Hello everyone, i have some issues activating this patch in my kobo aura hd, last firmware 4.8.11073. when i click the batch file everything seems to be ok but when i restart my kobo, the dictionary appear in the list as Extra_xx but not downloaded. I have never hacked my kobo until now and i am doing only because of the custom dictionaries. here is what i can see in the patch i used:

patch_name = `Allow searches on Extra dictionaries`
patch_enable = `yes`
# Multi-version patch: 4.7.10413 - 4.8.10956+
#
## To allow searches on Extra dictionaries change space character at end of
## "Extra:_e2 " to another char (ex: "Extra:_e2")
## The space char causes a non-desired "English - English" when searching on
## Extra dictionary from main menu.

find_base_address = `\0Extra:\x20`
replace_string = 0007, `\x20`, `_`

Is this correct? Hope someone can help me...

You need to perform all the steps in post #1 of this thread, not just the patch.

I have done everything as explained in the thread. I put that part because i thought was incorrect and i didn't know where to put the char after Extra_
I paste here the other part so we can figure out what is missing or wrong (the third one i think is ok, infact i can see the custom dictionary in the list as i renamed in the Database):

The patch looks OK. Did you do a full Power Off/On after you finished making all your changes?

If this doesn't fix it please post screenshots showing:

1. the contents of your .kobo/dict directory, specifically the 2 entries for
   dicthtml-e2.zip
   dicthtml-i2.zip
2. the Dictionary table of the Kobo database showing the 2 entries for
   -e2
   -i2

i.e. your equivalent of steps 4 and 5 from post #1.

@Olgar79 please, check the below list and remember to use Notepad++ to edit if you are in windows:
1.- Apply Allow searches on Extra dictionaries (libnickel.so.1.0.0) patch.
As jackie_w says, you don't need to change patch.
2.- Edit \.kobo\Kobo\Kobo eReader.conf and fill ExtraLocales= under [ApplicationPreferences] section:

3.- Dictionaries will not be downloaded. You must copy dictionary files (dicthtml-e2.zip and dicthtml-i2.zip) to \.kobo\dict folder.
4.- Open the \.kobo\KoboReader.sqlite SQLite database and insert a row for each dictionary on Dictionary table.
Pay attention that suffix is -e2 while name is Extra:_e2 Inglés - Español (Harrap's) and size is in bytes.
5.- Safely disconnect the device and restart.
