Audible app for Apple Watch - does it work for anybody?

I’ve had very little success with Sync to Apple Watch. The only things that have worked for me are smaller (less than a couple of hours long) audiobooks, and even then, it is no sure thing. Get constant ‘Paired Apple Watch is not responding’ errors. Does not seem to matter if it is in charging cradle.

Other audio apps (iCatcher, Apple Music) seem to have no such difficulty.

Has anyone discovered any tricks to getting it to work?

Update: something may have been improved in recent update: it seems to work a bit better, at least when Watch is in charging dock, even with longer titles (still get Paired Watch is not responding some). Still not clear why it needs to be in the dock, though given how long the downloads can take, it is probably prudent to do so so power does not drain.
