Onyx Boox is Open to Applications!
Well, hello everyone. My name is Mike Hu, I am in charge of Business Development and Sales in the US for Onyx International. Since Onyx has started to create a name for itself, it's time for the next phase in our plans. I am now also in charge of application development.
Since the policy at Onyx is to always be open. We have always released our SDK to the public so that 3rd party programmers can design their own applications for the Boox. We will be hosting an application store very soon at our website at www.onyxboox.com. At the moment we have begun to create a developers community. If anyone would like create applications for the Onyx Boox, please send me an email at mikehu@onyx-international.com. The SDK can be downloaded at http://www.onyx-international.com/node/58. Looking forward to working with everyone that is interested. |

Ok, time to clear up some rumors. I know I have been pretty cryptic with application development. However, I will let go of some information and tell you of only a few of the companies we're working with. to develop applications for.
1. First launch of an application will probably be Scribd.com. We have been working on an official application designed particularly for them. 2. Google Books - this is still speculation on whether we would want to add them since our other content providers can provide the same at better quality. 3. Mathematica - we have been talking and working with them about creating an application on the Boox. We're looking to create 2 versions or even one version with an advanced version built within. One will work alone on the device and the other will require access to the internet. However it will not be easy and thus may be awhile before one will be released. That's it for now. There are plenty more, but that is enough information for you to contemplate on for now. |

You should add Google Books, but mainly for the name value, not the content. Imagine the value in being able to say "The Onyx Boox now comes with access to over a million titles through Google Books."

The thing with Google is even though they are free, the quality is not that great. We will have other content providers that will have free books just like Google books but at other quality.

Other applications in talks or works:
1. Kobo Books - We have been talking to Kobo books about their application on the Boox. We really like their device neutral approach and their global reach. 2. Evernote - We like the note taking and sharing capabilites and have started in developing the Evernote application for the Boox. Will keep more updated. You absolutely need to access Google Books I think. That would be a huge selling point. I don't believe any other source of books has as many books. Google says they have scanned 15 million books so far, and it's only a matter of time before they unlock access to all of the books once the lawsuits are settled.
I just don't think you should limit at all the amount of sources for contents that you can support. |

Forget Onyx as a reliable company in any way, seriously...
