You can change your vote by sending a SASE to me with a check for $500. I will send you the vote changing code by UPS ground in 6 to 10 weeks.

What happens in the event of a tie when the poll closes? Is the poll kept open until the next vote comes in for the winner?

Hmm... do I vote for the Charlie Chan or keep my vote to cast the tie-breaker?

They all sound interesting- I want to read them all.

You know, we have had this question before, and it has yet to happen.

We'll figure something out.

I have been lurking for a while but recently registered. I'm not sure if I'll be able to participate so I'm waiting to vote. I don't think it would be fair to vote if I will not have time to read the book and participate in the discussion.

It's exciting to see a close vote!

In the case of a tie, whatever I voted for wins.

Really, I don't see that in the by-laws. Although, considering I am the self-appointed Grand Poobah shouldn't the winner of the tie be the one I voted for?

If it were a three-way tie I'd vote for The Chinese Parrot. But after taking another look at my backlisted reading I decided I don't want to make time to reread the Agatha Christie. Sooo (and with heartfelt apologies to fbrII)

I voted for Murder Must Advertise.

Grand Poobah, did I miss your vote or have not voted?

How come the italics don't always work for me?

That's pretty much how I feel about it. I read all the Christies when I was 17-20 years old, and IMO they aren't worth another read. I'll be a good sport if the Christie title wins, but I definitely won't be reading it.

An open letter to Charlie

Charlie,

It is with deep regret, I must inform you that those two old British biddies and their infernal prattle about tea and Mum and "de little gray cells" have once again conspired to deny the reading public the pleasure of reading the greatest Chinese detective mystery novel occurring in Honolulu in the 1930's ever!

However, it wasn't your fault, them with their reputations and their publishing companies and their screen plays and their biographers and you...

What chance did you have? Just a couple of books, a few late night movies and a passionate but dopey looking karma-less penguin, that nobody listens to. But together, we fought the good fight and we almost brought down those invincible mavens of boredom.

I'm sorry, you had to pass away, I'm sorry, you are once again being relegated to the dust bin... I'm sorry, I let you down. But at least I know you're in a better place now up there with Raymond and Dashiell.

But, as for the rest of us down here, we will just have to read another book bout that prissy aristocrat Lord Wimsey and his Mumsey.

tea anyone?

If it makes you feel any better, fbrII, I have downloaded the Charlie Chan omnibus and have every intention of reading it, even if something else wins this month's vote. I'm always interested in reading about a previously unknown (to me, anyway) detective. So thank you for lobbying so hard on Chan's behalf -- you've piqued my interest.
