My Kobo recommendations haven't been too far off for the most part. My biggest problem is clicking on "Already Read It" doesn't work (clicking Not Interested works fine) and I've tried it on multiple browsers (Chrome & IE) and multiple computers. The recommendations would probably get better if I could tell the system I've read some of them.

actually, I don't have this "already read it" option either on the desktop app nor on the ereader (nor online): is this part of the new firmware?

I suspect I will be seeing many more romance recommendations as I rarely buy books from the Kobo site. Free books I tend to acquire from elsewhere -- elsewhere being defined any place where I can obtain the books without DRM. The majority of my books purchases are from Baen and other non-DRM loving publishers.

Guess I'll have to live with the unintended humour of many of their recommendations.

For some reason, I always get the Fifty Shades books recommended to me. Which makes no sense, as you'd have to tie me down and whip me to get me to read them...

Kobo sells some books DRM-free, I think the choice is up to the publisher, but I can't work out the logic to it. The first book of Peter F. Hamilton's Void Trilogy had DRM, but the other two are DRM-free. All three are published by Pan Macmillan UK.

That's not the correct author. The correct author is I.P. Dailey.

Yes, it is up to the publisher or author. But, Kobo have made some mistakes. I have seen a couple of books in a series that the author specified to be DRM free but weren't. When he heard about it, he had it fixed.

To be fair, something seems to have changed and since a few days recommendations seem to be better. Maybe Kobo needs some time to let my purchases and wishlist sink in. It's still not as good as Amazon's sytem, but certainly better...

I just love how they keep recommending "50 Shades of Grey" to me---even though I've told them MULTIPLE times I'm not interested.

If I want to read crappy fanfic, I can do it on the internet for free, thanks.
