Converting Documents To Mobi With Macintosh

Hi,

I'm pretty new to the Calibre program, but is seems very nice and functional. I have a specific problem with which I could use some guidance.

I have a number of DOC files (Word DOC) that I need to convert to a MOBI format.... So, I open these files within Microsoft Word (Macintosh version 2004) save them as RTF, then add them to the library of Calibre.... from there, I attempt to convert to MOBI, and I am met with an error that is very cryptic, but seems to indicate something about fonts and such....

Next, I figured that I would try to do this on a Windows machine running Word 2007..... the same sequence above worked..... (even the Calibre was the windows version)

Unfortunately for me, the windows solution is not optimal.... so I was hoping that someone here may be able to point me in the right direction to a solution for this issue....

Thanks

Kos

Within Word 2004, you could try saving as HTML (use the simplest kind of HTML available if there is a choice) and then run Calibre. What I would try instead is Open Office and save in its standard ODT format, then Calibre.

NICE!

Wallcraft! Thanks for the hint.... I'm not sure why I didn't think to try something non-MS.... but that worked... opened the documents in OpenOffice, saved as ODT and RTF..... both seemed to be ok.... not perfect, but both converted....

Any preference? Does either one (RTF or ODT) do a better job when converted?

I don't know. ODT is a more modern format, but it may not be as well debugged as RTF in Calibre (since fewer people use it).
