They look like ❖ \x2756 and ⬧ \x2B27, or something like that, not ASCII, whatever. Anyone has idea about how to change the dictionary font, anyway?

I've just tried both versions and they work fine on my device, a Touch Lux 5.
The only difference I can see between them in the screenshots I took is that the unstripped dictionary displays the centuries like this : "(Fin XIX e)" whereas the stripped one shows : "(Fin XIXe)", the latter being nicer to my mind. Other than that, is there any reason to choose one over the other? |

You're quite free to do what you like.
![]() I just wanted to know if both worked and whether the stripping introduced unwanted errors. Apparently, it strips the tags slightly different from converter.exe. The original post suggested all tags starting with a 'b' would be retained. So blockquote-, and br- and body- tags would be retained, while my script strips them. That could explain the difference in justification and spacing. However, it's just speculation. Last edited by Markismus; 04-28-2025 at 04:00 PM. |

I got a private message from @carwash338 about a mobi ENG-POR dictionary and it didn't convert....
...so I spent some time with HTML::TreeBuilder and I am starting to create a general purpose html-dictionary converter subroutine. It's still very early and only tested on 2(!) dictionaries. However, one of those results can be found in the ENG-POR subdirectory on pCloud. |

Dear Markismus,
It's been a long time since I last bothered you. :-) I was wondering if you could convert the following dictionary for KOReader. https://u.pcloud.link/publink/show?c...gkCvHF1J8JG4oy Thank you! |

@ichnilatis I don't recognize the file-formats as ones that I have previously converted.
Doesn't Pyglossary convert those? Last edited by Markismus; 06-14-2025 at 04:39 AM. |

Sorry, my mistake, wasn't specific enough. I was referring to this post and trying to point to a program that can handle those file formats.
Edit: But the link to PyGlossary is exactly what was needed. Quote:

Hi @Markismus!
Have been watching your incredible work with dictionaries for a few years now. Let me say thank you on behalf of all those who need or just love dictionaries and can’t handle the plethora of different formats themselves! Personally, I have decided on the StarDict format long ago, and have my "standard set" of dictionaries that I use with GoldenDict-ng on my Linux computers, and (a subset) on my Pocketbook e-reader (with KOReader). Today I had a quick look at your PONS Worterbuch En-De Premium_Stardict_15thMAy2020.zip, just to check out if the premium would be better than my regular PONS EN-DE/DE-EN. Compared to mine, I noticed that you (or the source) have removed the resources subfolder "res" and all colour information. Not much of a loss, thinking of e-readers, especially because the PONS resources are mainly just coloured & numbered bullet points. But I found the numbered sections (like 1., 2., 3.) are a bit glued together and hard to read. I think these should originally be ordered lists. Would there be a chance to redo these, with a bit nicer visual display? I attach a (GoldenDict-ng) screenshot for the word "consciousness", showing my original PONS and yours. |

Is there a way to keep backup an installed official dictionary?
I can't found it inside /system. I have the pocketbook era 700 and the dictionary is the "English - Greek". Thank you very much |

Hi @Moonbase59,
I've uploaded a screenshot of the source premium mobi-file on mobi-reader: The next one is a smaller mobi-file I found on my harddisk. Nowadays there is a toggle to dis-/allow <br/> tags, so rerunning the script with the right toggle would be enough. However, your version seems quite nice. Nicer, in fact. Care to share? Maybe via PM? |
