Martha Grimes Backlist Titles
The complete backlist of Martha Grimes' Inspector Jury series is finally appearing in ebook form. Apparently Grimes changed publishers, and the ebooks are now being sold by Simon & Schuster - priced at a whopping $11.99 per book (in contrast to the $7.99 price for the ebooks previously produced by Onyx books). The S&S ebooks appear well formatted - but these are 20+ year old titles. And the cover art looks like something slapped together in a kindergarten art class.

Update - finished reading the first title in the series (The Man With A Load of Mischief) on a Kindle - the book is well edited & formatted - no extra spaces between paragraphs, etc. Just a few typos - mainly extra "-" that were not removed from original breaks at line ends, and a couple of rare scanning errors.
Very nicely produced ebook - but $11.99 for a book originally published in 1981? Methinks the publishers are cynically relying on a reading public that has been waiting for this series to appear as ebooks - as it does stand up well with re-readings. The first 10 books of this series are much richer - in characters and plotting - than the later entries - Grimes dropped most of the Long Pidd cast of characters to center the series on Jury alone - a mistake IMHO. [Note: I wonder why BBC/ITV never picked up on this series for TV adaptations .... I've seen a lot of British character actors in the Midsomer Murder series that I've mentally transplanted to Long Piddleton] |

The Man With A Load of Mischief is available on Kobo (Scribner,March 2013, Simon & Schuster eBook) for "only" $9.39. And from where I am from you can use the discount code on that price
Same publisher also has The Old Fox Deceived, Anodyne Necklace and The Dirty Duck (all March 2013 editions). On BoB they are $7.19 (though I think they cannot be further discounted from that price). Last edited by jmilica; 03-31-2013 at 11:34 AM. |

Titles are $11.99 at Kobo for US residents - but there are Kobo discount codes.
