Interesting, maybe no longer need to charge e-reader once a month with this technology

Power consumption is only one of the advantages of eInk - what's it like in direct sunlight?
I actually tried googling for this but most articles are very thin on details right now. There's a technical paper I found but I couldn't figure from it whether it would work outdoors. It did say that the black looks purplish in bright white light but that was "tolerable for plastic card display application". Not sure what "plastic card display" means - smart cards? |

I'd want some data on the display's anticipated lifespan.

I doubt this will have any application to e-reader technology. This seems to be more like reusable paper than a display. It is very thin and flexible, but has no electrical components. It requires a separate, fairly high power device, to write an image to it. Figure 3 in the technical paper shows a write time of about 10 seconds to achieve a saturated image. It also mentions that the image will decay when exposed to sunlight. The application seems to be things like security key-cards, which could have a persons photo printed on them and then be later be re-printed with another person's photo and reused.
