If you are transferring KFX format anyways, you might was well update K4PC to 2.4.0 (70904). The DeDRM plugin handles those books and people have reported that 1.39.x will not download newer books.

I downloaded all my books from over the years and am in the process of converting them but at this point am unwilling to buy anymore as Ive been reading that they are coming in the new KFX format which is more difficult to deal with especially as I'm on a Mac. A new irk is that they even killed off Libby and my local library becasue all the books are being routed through Amazon for download which brings me tote same position that I cant get them off Amazon and to my Kindle. I have managed to get the book downloaded to my MBP for reading in the Kindle app but that defeats the purpose of the E-ink. After some digging I found where its hiding the books, literally 20 directories in and you have to dig because the book isnt called anything you would recognize. Finding it is only half the issue. While Im not a programmer one of the files (I cant recall the type sounds like a timer so the file goes away but I'm not sure) the other issue is the book is in a KFX format that my Kindle wont handle so now Im faced with figuring out the KFX conversion on a MAC. I saw the Windows way and can try that but damn what a runaround. Do you or does anyone have any thoughts on the proper way to get boks from the library? Am I on the right path? |

There is currently no way to deDRM books downloaded with Kindle for Mac. If you have no eink Kindle with wifi, then the only way is to use the Windows app.

I'm not following you? Isn't it the other way around? If you want to convert in bulk, isn't it much, much easier to use the files on your Kindle as opposed to D&T? If I use the D&T method, that means I go to Amazon's website and select 25 books at time (that's the most you can select). I have 1,000 books, so that means I'd have to repeat this process 40 times. Then I import them into Calibre to strip their DRM. In contrast, if I use the files on my Kindle, all I have to do is connect my Kindle to my PC, open Calibre, select all kfx files and import them. Boom. Easy-peasy. I understand many people don't have a compatible Kindle, so I'm not suggesting this is easy for everyone. And I understand a lot of people feel awz converts to epub more smoothly than kfx. So I'm not arguing overall the direct-from-Kindle method is better than D&T. Rather, I'm narrowly addressing your comment that (for people with compatible devices) bulk conversions are easier with D&T than with direct-from-Kindle conversions. I would strongly disagree. For those who might like to know.
I've made about a dozen ebook purchases at Amazon since the 26th, one of those being a paid pre-order, the rest were freebies. On Windows 7 with the last version of calibre that supports that OS and the last DeDRM plugin that supports that version of calibre, I was able to get my ebooks after a wifi download to my old E-Ink Kindle Keyboard device. I simply browsed the 'documents' folder on my device and imported into calibre, and now I am no longer beholden to a Kindle device. I'd never used that method before and it worked well, and it really was a deciding factor for me, an experiment, to see whether I would continue to acquire ebooks from Amazon ... at least until I setup something on Windows 11, and providing Amazon don't screw things up meanwhile. |

Aren't you still beholden to you "old E-Ink Kindle Keyboard device" to get your ebooks? I don't understand what you are trying to say in this paragraph.

If you were limiting yourself to the go to the web page and download 1 at a time method, you might be right. OTOH, a little browsing on the Internet would have found a selection of ways to download all your collection at once.

Yes, if I still buy from Amazon, but those ebooks I mentioned have now been freed, and I can read them on any device I want.

Today I tried buying and converting a current book from amazon.de (amazon.de/Hieb-Strich-Story-Margaret-Atwood-ebook/dp/B0DJPGKNRN/). In the Kindle App at windows laptop there is it as a kfx-zip file. In Calibre this file is locked by DRM and can't converted into epub.
Then I loaded the book on my Paperwhite (11th generation) and transferred the book into the Calibre library. There it is a kfx file and can be converted. I hope this way will continue to work. |

Your Kindle app was probably too new. Needs to be no more recent then 2.4.0 (70904).
