I just started doing this as well. No longer having to do Calibre conversions for KOReader is a big plus. Amazon has become a way to search for deals that I now mostly purchase at Kobo when available.

After you make your purchase on Kobo, you head off to Kobo's price match which is handled by Zendesk (customer service provider). You can use https://www.kobo.com/p/pricematch-about and click on the Fill Out Form button.

You can also use the direct URL for the form. For me, the URL is https://pricematchrakutenkobo.zendes...s/requests/new which I have bookmarked for some odd reason.

This thread seems to be trying to set a record for drifting off topic since D&T dropped dead.

This is not available for everyone. Not, at least, in Spain.

Honestly at this point it does look like the only way to put books on non-wifi Kindles is to remove the DRM and sideload them via USB.

So if you want to buy your books from Amazon, then currently the easiest way is to get them via Kindle for PC as detailed in this thread (see Method 2); you will have to convert the KFX book to AZW before sending to your Kindle. Otherwise you can consider buying your books at Kobo (whose DRM is easy to strip) or from other retailers offering DRM-free books.

Thanks Gecko. I have just tried buying a book through Kobo. Downloaded it ok. But Kobo books are dearer and never have the books I have in my Amazon Ebooklist.
I love calibre as its easy to search what books I already have
As titles and covers do change in amazon and I have bought odd ones twice.

Amazon does have eBooks that are exclusive. But for the other eBooks, you can get at Kobo, you can price match Amazon at Kobo.

Take a screen grab of the eBook with the price from Amazon in case Kobo asks for it. Use the URL below to price match with Kobo.

Sometimes Kobo is cheaper. Most, but not all, Kindle Unlimited are exclusive (ones uploaded via KDP Select, larger publishers usually exempt).

How do I get this book over to my windows computer where I can run Calibre with DeDRM to get rid of DRM?

Connecting your Paperwhite to the computer? Or what exactly did you mean by "how"?

@artnking there never was such a device as a nook touch. The first nook with touch is the nook ST.

The Kindle Touch is great now that D&T is gone. It download eBooks in KF8 or the occasional Mobi.

I think the best way is not to download to your Paperwhite first off, but to download to your PC and then transfer to the Paperwhite via Calibre & sideloading.
  1. I have a Kindle that I keep 100% on Airplane mode. I use Kindle for PC (version 1.39.2 - the older version number is important) with my Windows 10 PC. Keep a backup copy of that version just in case, and within the options, make sure that Updating is turned off.
  2. In K4PC, I sync my library, and right click to download a book to my PC. Within K4PC there's an option to specify which folder the book will download to.
  3. Then I open up Calibre and under Add Book, I navigate to that folder, and click on the book folder inside. There are two files in the book folder; I add the .azw file to Calibre. This comes into Calibre as a .kfx file
  4. Assuming you have the latest DeDRM plugin, you can then convert the .kfx to an epub/mobi.
  5. I plug my Kindle into my PC and within Calibre I use Send to Device to send the book to the Kindle.

This sounds like a lot of steps, but in practice it takes less than a minute to do that.
