Calibre Sync for Android & iOS

Hello:

I'm attempting to set up a library on my Android 14 tablet using Calibre Sync app and the Smart Device connection to access my main library on my notebook installation of Calibre 7 (Windows 10 64bits).

Is there any way to see the library for files downloaded with the Smart Device connection in a cover grid?

The only view I have currently available is an horizontal list, with tiny cover thumbnails on the left.

Hello, newbie questions (CC original doesn't work in my new phone - license issue).:

• How do you see ALL the custom columns associated to a book. It shows only some of them and I don't find a way to show all.
• Is it possible to configure the columns you see in detailed view?

In Filter tab there’s a cogwheel for setting the columns

Edit: I see, you asked for detail view. I don’t think so

That cog is for filtering, I was asking for Detail or, if not possible, in the book data (only some columns are shown and I don't know how to change them).

I just downloaded c-s. I have 2 problems.
1. I have been downloading my library to my kindle for 4 days. I have 7000 books and still have 4500 to download. I am using content server.
2. When I open a book from c-s I get a drum error. When I go to my kindle library I can open it fine.

Any help is great!

I am absolutely going nuts. I have tried updating my Y/N read status field from calibre sync. I cannot make this work. I am using calibre sync on two different android devices and calibre is on windows 11. I originally loaded 8,000 books from my local windows library. For testing purposes I have now created a 10 book library on my onedrive. When I update the read status from Calibre on windows the #readstatus column goes to from 0 to 1. This column never changes when I update the read status in calibre sync. I have an update and overwrite option for the read status field. I am using update. This keeps the read status within calibre sync but it doesn't seem to change metadata.db. I saw mention of a two-way sync but I don't appear to have that option on either my large or my test libraries. I believe that my library is in the V2 format, if that matters.

Any suggestions of what else to try. I am really stuck. Thanks........Jackie

You MUST have a username and password with calibre server for CS to be able to write the status back to calibre. I think it's that calibre doesn't allow anonymous write access.

Hey, all, I emailed this question to the Calibre Sync devs, but I didn't realize this program had a subthread on here, so I figured I might ask here as well:

I have a Calibre database on an external hard drive that I do not sync; I access that library via Calibre on my Macbook.

I keep a separate copy of that Calibre database on Mega.nz and use Calibre Sync to sync to Mega in order to access my Calibre library on my iPhone.

When I add new books to my desktop (Macbook) Calibre library, I copy over the new folders, db file and db preferences file to Mega and overwrite the db and db preferences files there. I wonder if this is a bad way to go about things because today, after doing this, when trying to sync with Mega in Calibre Sync, I got an error saying it could not sync because the database was malformed. I tried to screenshot but the error appeared and disappeared too quickly.

Possibly related, possibly not: I used Calibre to make a copy of my library in order to create a second Calibre library to keep one genre of books in. (Both on my external hard drive. I deleted all the books that were not of [genre] and kept the ones that were.) After doing this, I got a warning within Calibre that my original .db was malformed. I had to recreate the original database via the book files.

I remember previously having what might have been a .db malformed database or some sort of problem with syncing in Calibre Sync as well and ended up deleting my library and .db from Mega and re-uploading it, which fixed the sync issues.

Does anyone have a fix for this? Is copying my Calibre .db somehow damaging it?

I just got content server working using the two-way sync. When I am using OneDrive I only see Update or Overwrite but not two-way sync. I was under the belief that I could update the read status from the cloud. Was I wrong?

I don't know if this will help or not but I have a large Calibre library and for my husband and my mother I have created a second (and third) library with their name. On my main library I selected all the books that my husband will want to read and copied them to the new library. Now, after I add new books to my main library, I look at the latest date in his library and add any new books of interest to him from that date by copying them in Calibre from one library to another. He can then use CC or CS or OPDS to download his books. When I add a book, I have a custom column for my mother and my husband. I update it if I think they might be interested in the book. Some people might just do this via genre. Either way, I find that just coping files to the smaller library starting from the last date is a really easy way to keep them in sync. I haven't had problems with any of the access methods and data corruption........Jackie

If you copy it while calibre is open, I suppose it might be copying something that's only partially updated?

I suggest doing Library Maintenance/Check Library in calibre on your main library, quit calibre, and then copy it over again.

I'm not sure why, but it seems to download them as .txt files, then opens it as directed in moonreader +, and while it has chapters listed, its empty. I have no idea what may be happening. Thank you.

Also, I tried uploading the .db/metadata files to Mega via browser rather than using the Mega desktop app and that seemed to fix things! But I'll also do what you suggest to make sure everything's ok, thank you.

Something very strange. I "complained" a little while ago that CS wasn't downloading all my epubs when I asked it to. I based this on the fact that when I went to read a book it often told me that I had to wait for it to be downloaded. This is even when the filters said everything was downloaded. Well that happened again. This time I checked "my files" on Android and found out that the book had been downloaded just like the filters implied. CS still said that I couldn't open it without it downloading again, and that didn't seem to happen very quickly. I opened it from "My Files" and it worked fine.

Anyone else seen this and figured out what causes it? .........Jackie
