[SOLVED] eBook Reading Display - Non-color vs. Color Models

I have a K4NT kindle and am happy with the quality of the display when I am reading eBooks. I am considering a later model so that I can add some features, the primary on being that of listening to audiobooks also.

Are the display on all of the later generations of Kindles that have color displays and more capabilities similar in contrast and sharpness to that of what I seen on the K4NT?

Thanks for any help,

Jack

There are no eInk Kindles with color displays. That said, the Kindles with 300dpi and Carta screens are much sharper and have more contrast than your K4NT.

Thanks for the reply.

I had missed the significance of the E Ink display not being on the Fire and other color display models. I looked at a wiki page for E Ink and led me to another wiki page that lists the kindle models better:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/E_Ink#E_Ink_Carta

This page divides the Kindle model listings into two groups, one for E Ink models and one for LCD models and that eliminates a lot of confusion for me:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amazon_Kindle

So I know I probably want to consider the later generation devices that do not have color displays to get the same type and quality of display am seeing now. I really don't have a need for a color display, I just thought it was characteristic of all of the later models.

Thanks again,

Jack

I know the device you have. Nearly every e-ink kindle has a better display. The basic is probably about the same as your K4.

The Fire is a cheap tablet not an ereader. I hope this helps.

None of the newer e-ink kindle models support audiobooks.

If you really want to listen to audio books on your ereader, maybe consider a different brand.
But bear in mind that using the audio considerably runs down the battery.

As far as I know that is only used to support accessibility features, including TTS. I haven't heard any reposts of that being usable for audiobooks.

When this subject came up, I tried on both a KT3 (audio via bluetooth) and a PW-3 (audio via dongle) - -
Amazon will not deliver an audiobook to either of them.

Their audio support is limited to their own screen readers (TTS).

No member of the Developer's Forum has wanted to extend the audio support to include other uses bad enough to do it.

Thanks for all the inputs and help. I still like the video qualities on my K4NT and am doing OK using my S4A cell phone as a playback device for audiobooks.

My audio books are either acquired as CD's with *.mp3 files or converted from regular audio CD's to *.mp3 files using a ripper/converter app (Asunder) on Mint Linux.

So I am going to just stay that way for now.

I had jail broken my K4NT and had Duokan 2013 installed. I was getting tired of the Chinese screen savers and also have become interested in distancing myself from the China based Kindle Duokan software.

I have learned more about Duokan from these forums while I was using it and feel that they are not "playing the game fairly" with the rest of the world. So with that and the unwanted amount of Chinese seen on the screens while using the K4NT in the Duokan mode, I am ready to move on from Duokan.

I am going to give KO Reader a try... Is there another good option? I looked at Liberator too but that seems to be less popular and maybe even fading away...

Thanks again for all the help here!

KOreader is for touchscreen devices.
Liberator is the version for your K4 (and for the keyboard devices).

Thanks for that! I need to look at or study up on Liberator again!
