Problem with
I recently edited a text using the Calibre Editor 7.26, and I used   to generate thin non-breaking spaces, mostly to manage how punctuation behaves within a french text (i.e. thin space before ; : ! », etc.)
All went well in the editor, the displayed text on the right pane was OK. BUT when I open the ePub file with the Calibre Viewer 7.26, my non-breaking spaces break ! How can I fix this, please ? |

I usually use Georgia ; so I tried Times New Roman, Garamond Pro, Calibri, even Futura. Same problem occurs...

what does they "break" mean? And the viewer and editor both render using Qt WebEngine. Attach a sample ebook showing the issue as there could be anymore of problems causing it.

“break” means that there's a line break in the wrong place, just where I'd inserted &thinsp ;.
Apparently, you can only insert a URL here, not a file, and my file isn't on the net. However, I've attached one of the xhtml files from the file, which shows the problem I encountered. Quote:

The problem can be seen, for instance, in the sentence:
************** Elle a probablement été lue devant la société dite « The Heretics » ; *************** In the editor, there is no line break in the middle of : « The Heretics » ; But there is in the viewer. |

I thought   (   ) allowed breaks but maybe I'm wrong. Have you tried a narrow non-breaking space (   )?

Beaten to the answer by icallaci.
From what I remember... stopped to check Wikipedia and it does say the narrow non-breaking space is the correct choice. |

It worked.
What I did in the editor was : - insert character (from the edit menu) - Go to general punctuation - Select [nnb sp] (NARROW NO-BREAK SPACE (U+202F) ) - Search and replace   with this character (appears as a grey character) So I was wrong from the beginning thinking   was a no-break thing ... I thought it was the "thin" version of ... my bad ! Thanks for your help ! |
