PW2 turns WiFi back on after recharge

My PaperWhite 2 (with ads) has always had an iffy battery. If I leave WiFi on, it lasts about 2 1/2 days, unused. So I always turn WiFi off unless i need it to download a specific book. This gets me better battery life, although still not as great as my Sony T2.

But when the battery dwindles to the recharge warning, and I recharge, WiFi turns itself back on. So there are many cycles where I charge, detach charger, and come back and it's dead, because WiFi has turned itself back on.

Is this "normal" behavior? Is there a setting I'm missing to leave WiFi off on reboot?

The 5.7.2.1 update ran of its own accord because of this behavior, and now my PW2 is very sluggish running this update. So I'd like to have a little more control of the actions it takes after reboot.

I have never had any problems with my Paperwhite 2. There is a newer version of the firmware just released to fix some bugs.

A factory reset turns wifi back on. But a "dead battery" reboot should not do that.

Make sure you are in airplane mode.

You are a couple of updates behind. Sluggishness may have come from kindle attempting to do the two updates at 5.7.4. The first of these caused rapid battery drain, the seconds fixed that. But the 5.7.4 updates removed the reading progress and book length line of dots. This week, Jun 14, an update to 5.8.1 which restored the dots was released.

You only need to do the most current one, 5.8.1

I have TWICE had a side-loaded firmware update (that I installed) turn airplane mode off (i.e. wifi or 3G on). Did you install a firmware update?
