multitasking?

Would it be possible to run multiple instances of ipdf at once?
I would like to switch between 2 or even more documents. For example, one has the text, the other one the footnotes, or the pictures etc.

You would have to change the source code from ipdf, but Linux is a multitasking system, so it should be no problem.

I thought of a window manager, is there one?
You would only have to define keys to switch (like "Alt-Tab")

Sure there is a display manager (there is almost always one).

But you´re right - you need to switch. You can include that in the source code of the program or modify/adjust the window manager .

In the case of the iliad, the window manager is "matchbox". It has been configured so that it doesn't show titlebars; if you enable them, in the top-left icon of the window titlebar, matchbox shows a list of the running applications.

Tested alternatives:

Yokos has successfully used fluxbox instead of matchbox for having several applications opened at once:

Untested alternatives:

See post #4 of this thread
https://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=10410

In the start.sh script, if you change the " -use_titlebar no " to " -use_titlebar yes ", you should have the matchbox titlebar for full-screen apps, including ipdf. Alas, modifying start.sh is very dangerous (you can make you iliad incapable of booting, so you should double-check that you can reflash from CF before attempting this).

thank you, this is very interesting...

...But fluxbox is probably overkill, maybe it would be better to use matchbox-panel. I think I will have to see if I can get the crosscompiler working...
