Do they allow the user to upload any font, or is font selection limited to those fonts pre-loaded in the reader?

Anyway, I don't want to hijack the thread (and the discussion about readers would not belong here), the relevant part for this thread is "if they are not set in the epub", that's a reason not to set the line-height property

Yes, you can sideload fonts.
