Can't import into Calibre 6.26

Anyone have this problem? Upgraded to 6.26 today from 6.25 and cannot import any Lit file into Calibre (not even txt files!). Even ones I have previously imported. All give the same error:

Works fine here.

The error message suggests that you have a permission problem on accessing the Calibre metadata.db file.

What version of calibre are you using, and what OS are you using it on?

Calibre 6.26 upgraded from 6.25 with Windows 7 64-bit. Had no problems with this OS with 6.25 version.

Just set the permission to read/write for the metadata.db file, which you will find in the calibre library folder.

OK. Already done that & checked full permissions for administrator and user (both me). Get the same error message for any new book I try to add - no matter whether its Lit, PDF, Txt, or HTML.

Hold it! I upgraded from 32-bit to 64-bit OS and copied my metadata.db file to the new Calibre library - is that an issue?

In itself it is not, but is quite likely that during the process permissions got messed up.

You need to check the permissions on the Calibre library folder (and sub-folders) and the metadata.db file to check that you current user has Full Access permission.

I've checked permissions and I have full control. But there is a problem: the file metadata.db has read only UNCHECKED but the entire folder of Calibre library (that includes the metadata file) is checked READ ONLY and no matter what I do, I can't uncheck it. That, is I uncheck it and say OK but immediately I go back to se the attributes, it is READ only checked again!

Problem solved - I think

After changing permissions in the folders at all levels with no effect - I had the bright idea of closing Calibre and the disk and then re-opening them both. Voila! I can now add books to Calibre!

Thank so much Itimpi and kovidgoyal for your patient help.
