Microsoft Word image versions
Hi,
I'm editing my eBook in Word, ready to create an ePub with Atlantis. Would appreciate anyone considering this issue forme... When you insert an image into Word and then alter the image (e.g. make it greyscale, crop it etc), Word then creates a second version of the image which it keeps a record of, making the file size larger. Is there anyway I can get Word to erase the original image version, and just keep the new version (e.g. the greyed, cropped one)? My eBook is very large with several hundred images etc, so I'm keen to do this. Also Atlantis only shows the original image version when opening inside it, applying none of the changes Word has made. Thanks in advance, Karen Last edited by karenbryant; 06-18-2012 at 02:12 PM. |

Word is a word-processing program. Image editing you can better do in an image editor.
Anyway, you could try to save it as RTF and import that into Atlantis. Or, save as filtered HTML and clean it up. Create your ePUB from the cleaned HTML manually. |

Image optimization in MS Word
I totally agree with Toxaris, you better use a third-party application to edit (re-size, change quality, apply effects, crop and so on...) images before inserting them into MS Word. Perhaps, GIMP may helps you.
But remember, you still can remove cropped areas of an image using MS Word. Click Compress pictures command in Picture tools - format tab and click Options... button to do this. This article will help you to do that: 5 Tips for Optimizing Images in Word Documents Last edited by WT Sharpe; 07-05-2012 at 03:44 PM. Reason: Opps, never mind. Nothing edited, nothing changed. |
