Kindle Scribe support

Hello -

My first post to this forum. I am considering pre-ordering a Kindle Scribe and wanted to know if anyone has any idea if/when Calibre will support the new Scribe device? Does anyone know yet if the Scribe will support writing notes in EPUB books? Or does Calibre convert an EPUB to AZW format when it is loaded to the Kindle device - if so, then would notes be supported?

Thanks for any info - it will help a lot with making my decision whether to purchase a new Scribe device.

Amazon don't support epub on Kindles even though it's used as the source for publishing via KDP and for "Send to Kindle".

Kindles are poorly supported on Calibre, less well than they used to be, due to Amazon's semi-walled garden approach and locked down nature. Collections, Series and Annotations are rubbish compared to a Kobo. I've used both for years.

Written notes on epub on any platform are useless for the proof/edit cycle. I only use the separate Advanced Notebooks on Sage and Elipsa for converted handwriting. The onscreen keyboard (or a BT keyboard is possible on some models) is the only useful way to annotate epubs on Sony (obsolete ereaders), Boyue/Meebook, Pocketbook, Boox, Kobo and Kindles. Only the Kobo is really good for PC integration of the annotation, Mac, Windows or Linux via Kobo Utilities on Calibre.

Either wait for real reviews here (not hype on goodereader or gizmodo etc) or get an 8" Kobo Sage for epub (type annotations), and separate notebooks (use MS Surface compatible "Adrawpen"). The Elipsa is lighter than the Kindle scribe and too heavy for notes.

The Scribe might be a good choice for PDFs, but any annotation export of those is likely PDF/Image only.

Wait and see.

Mostly unknown.

But note taking will ALWAYS be an issue as there are ZERO standards.
Therefore ZERO chance of interoperability.

Current Kindles put Annotations into a single file (?annotations.txt IIRC)
That includes the title of the book: The LOC (kindle specific) and what you typed.
AFAIK the only way to Sync between Kindles, is using Amazon (online sync)

No, that file, "My Clippings.txt" is essentially a log file. The actual notes, highlights, and bookmarks are kept in files in the book's sidecar directory.
