Pain, Barry: Robinson Crusoe’s Return. v1. 25 Dec 2022

A comic re-imagining of the sequel to “Robinson Crusoe.” In this novelette, we learn how Crusoe, who was born in 1632 and has discovered the secret of Eternal Middle Age, sails from his desert island on a raft of his own fashioning and is cast upon the south coast of twentieth-century England; and how he experiences remarkable adventures and falls into many scrapes through ignorance of modern manners.
(—Adapted from unidentified newspaper cutting contemporary to first edition.)

(One short quotation. I can’t resist)

… after much seeking, I lighted on three eggs. Two of these were real duck’s eggs, and of the third I cannot speak more particularly, as I found, on tasting it, that the copyright had expired.

Barry Eric Odell Pain (28 Sep. 1864 – 05 May 1928) was an English journalist, poet, humorist and writer. During his lifetime, he was perhaps best known as a writer of parody and lightly humorous stories, but now is also noted for his tales touched with fantasy, horror, and the supernatural. He also wrote stories of mystery and suspense. His humor has been characterized by some modern critics as “a surreal forerunner to Monty Python.”
