It's not a huge priority, but would it be possible to either implement "move to top/bottom" buttons on the columns list or perhaps be able to move them with ctrl/shift-arrow key?

I'm not particularly interested in adding features to the old kiwidude plugins, but I will accept code contributions. I'll also reconsider if other users speak up in favor.

(This felt really familiar; I was remembering this convo from Reading List.)

Thankfully, I figured out that checking a column, saving, and then re-opening the config will automatically move it up near the top of the list.

New Test Version Attached

chaley, wizard that he is, figured out the performance issue previously under discussion (see BR's post above for where it moved to) submitted a change to help with it.

The attached test version makes use of the perf fix, but it currently will only help if you run Calibre from source. This version should still work on older Calibre versions, though.

Suggestion:

When I right-click on a Column header I get this popup:

Would it be possible to add something similar to those I've boxed to VM, i.e.

Resize all columns to fit contents
Shrink widest columns so that all columns fit the window

@BetterRed - you mean make those options for a view so that if they were ticked they get applied whenever that view is selected? As of course they depend on whatever search data you have displayed at the time - so you would need to keep “reapplying” your view at times if you have outliers in your search results with extra long values.
