Where does the kindle store book covers?

I backed up /documents and I did a reset.
Most of the book covers are gone. Is there a special place the kindle stores them?

I usually transfer my mobi files using calibre. The books come with a cover.jpg.

(I actually find a lot of the book covers not so nice as thumbnails. Is there a way to selectively disable some book covers, either through the kindle or calibre?)

Usually, thumbnails are stored in D:\system\thumbnails (provided your Kindle has been assigned D: as the drive letter). Since system is a hidden folder, you'll need to unhide it.

That is amazing. Thank you.
I am on a mac. It never occurred to me that macOS doesn't display hidden folders even on a fat32 volume.

I could have sworn macs show hidden folders in windows partitions.

Looks like I have been defeated by 1995 computer obscurity.

It was debian and Ubuntu that display windows hidden files by default (at least they used to). Interesting that the kindle doesn't use the Linux standardised way of hiding a folder.

That is a property of the file system in use, not the operating system in use.
