I'll be a bit surprised if anyone makes a serious effort to harden the DRM. I think the current issue with Apple is more that the de-DRM programs used a method that is no longer support with High Sierra rather than Apple actively trying to shut them down.

The issue (for me) is that the next MacOS version (10.14 Mojave) is reported to be the last version that will support 32-bit apps. ADE 2.0.1 is a 32-bit app. It's fine with 10.13 (High Sierra). It should be fine with 10.14 (Mojave), but will almost certainly stop functioning with 10.15, in 2019. So I'm exploring options. |

Mind, I've actually switched to Kindle and Kobo (kepub) for a couple of years now. ADE activation is kind of a hassle. |

Obsolete programs that stop working is a long time problem with Apple. Apple makes very little effort to maintain backward compatibility. One suggestion that I would make is if you have multiple machines, put the latest and greatest ADE on one of the machines and see if you actually do have any issues or not. It may turn out to be not as much of an issue as you think. |

That's an interesting thought. But my impression is that once Apple transitions entirely to 64-bit, 32-bit apps simply will not run.

Not ideal though ADE 2.x can be run in a Windows VM when needed. My complaint with newer ADEs is that EPUB 3s ignore the ADE .xpgt stylesheet; handy when making your own EPUBs.
