The The History of the Thirteen (Histoire des Treize) is a set of three novellas:
Ferragus
The Duchesse de Langeais
The Girl with the Golden Eyes.
They are connected slightly by the plot device of a secret society - The Thirteen - but can be read independently.

Ferragus
A stalker disturbs a happy marriage, with fatal results.

The Duchesse de Langeais
A young duchess declines to succumb to the attentions of an admirer, who prepares a terrible punishment. However, things do not go as planned.

The Girl with the Golden Eyes
Balzac's lesbian revenge fantasy.

This was prepared from a text file, so I've restored italics, French accents and reformatted a lot. I've added a TOC and a couple of pictures.
