Chapter Markings with Calibre Conversion

I am using Sigil to edit a badly formatted ePub book that I received. I use the Chapter insert to create a new chapter.

When I convert from ePub to mobi using Calibre, chapters start on a new page, but don't register as chapters to a Kindle (Keyboard or Touch), i.e. I can't skip from one chapter to the next.

Don't know whether this forum is able to help. Would be grateful if someone could suggest what I am doing incorrectly.

You seem to have an issue with your TOC. Not really a Sigil issue, but fine. You need to be sure that your toc.ncx is correct. That can be generated in Sigil based on the headings.
Depending on your conversion method to mobi, you need a separate toc.xhtml with links to the files.
Search around on these forums, there are many threads about this.

Like Toxaris mentioned, the chapter "skipping" feature is a function of the toc.ncx file. Neither inserting chapter markers, nor splitting files into chapters in Sigil will have any effect on the toc.ncx file. You have to "generate" the toc.ncx from headings (h1,h2,h3, etc..) using the button in Sigil's "Table of Contents" view, or you have to manually edit/create the toc.ncx file yourself. If neither of those options is your cup of tea, then you need to tweak calibre's chapter detection expressions (in the structure detection section of the convert dialog) so it can accurately identify the chapters breaks and automatically build the toc.ncx for you.
