kobo aura, repair or replace?
Hi. I wanted to get your opinions. Oh, and wish you all happy holidays (it's been forever since I was active on here, as my ereader died from a broken screen eons ago).
So I really want to have an e-reader again since I just don't read on my phone and while I would love to go with something like the One (limited edition especially) or with the H2O, my budget isn't the greatest (I am hoping to emmigrate this year which means save save save). I still have my old Aura (and an old Gli too), so I was wondering if it would be better to buy a new screen online and try to repair it or just spring for a new one. I figure the pros and cons are the following: repairing pros: better for the environment I like the old design (and microSD slot) save 20 or 30 bucks in the process I already have a sleep case cons: might not work (especially if I fudge it up) easier for a solitary screen to get damaged in transit than an ereader replacing pros new toy I can try it out locally in a store no waiting so I can better take advantage of my "holidays" (unpaid so the best I can do is a staycation). newer hardware so it should support updates for a longer time should work cons more expensive no cases available locally so I'd have to search for a generic one that fits no capacitive touch more e-waste What do you guys think? Also, do any of you have experience changing the screen? Well, thanks in advance and I wish you a Merry Christmas, Happy Hannukah, Happy Kwanzaa, Merry Solstice, or just a general Happy holiday season whatever your traditions may be. |

Depending on the shipping costs to where you are another option would be a used very good Aura off of eBay ($55). Some here have bought from this seller and been quite happy, although I have no experience with them myself...

Yes, I have bought from this seller several times. Never a problem. I'd say, get that one.
Then you can take your time about trying to repair the broken one. Last edited by booklover6; 12-23-2017 at 08:39 AM. |
