From The 48 Laws of Power by Robert Greene:
Law 2 - Never put too much trust in friends, learn how to use enemies You might be eaten alive with ingratitude if you put too much trust in friends. If possible, turn worthy enemies into frienemies. They'll bend over backwards to prove themselves and be more honest about your character defects and shortcomings. |

Should one stay with the classic Staunton design for chess pieces? I've seen more modern designs for pieces and they seem to be confusing. I purchased a set of modern design pieces and found it confusing because the Queen and Pawns look identical except for their size. I've had the same issue with chess sets based on popular characters (Batman, The Simpson) and periods of history (like the Civil War). I've not had that confusion with the classically designed pieces.

Seems like you've answered your own question! If the pieces are confusing, then you should stick with the classic. Maybe the popular character sets are more for display than for playing.

As he watched Spock move his bishop to take his knight, Puck's memory fled back to his time as cabin boy aboard the HMS Bounty. As the memory of sea air and the echos of gulls filled his mind, Puck wondered if the true reason for the mutiny would ever be discovered, that the crew mutinied when it was discovered that Captain Bligh had eaten the last of the Neopolitan ice cream without sharing it with any of the petty officers or able seamen.

Will the future of audio be implants that send the music data directly into the brain. Thus, it would overcome all of the limitations of human hearing and compromises required with audio gear that must be worn by the user. Imagine how great the audio would sound.

Regarding The 48 Laws of Power--the gist is:
Don't be a chicken among chickens. Be a rooster (i.e., cock). Last edited by trichobezoar; 01-20-2020 at 09:57 AM. Reason: Replaced "jest" with "gist". Oops. |

Would we have to change the name of the play Waiting For Godot when Godot actually arrives?

Law 32 (of The 48 Laws of Power) - Play to people's fantasies
The Reality: Our hierarchical world has hard-set rules and boundaries. Socioeconomic and personal change (for the better) is slow and gradual. It requires hard work, a lot of self-sacrifice, patience, and quite a bit of luck. The fantasy: Use your gifts and resources to romance (e.g., inspire, entice, beguile) targets of opportunity--promise the fulfillment of needs, wishes and desires--deceitfully dangle carrots before your desperate victims... And control, manipulate or exploit at will. Last edited by trichobezoar; 02-18-2020 at 02:36 PM. |
