Calibre 2.20 64bit requires password in 8.1?

Trying to upgrade to version 2.20 64 bit in windows 8.1 I am being prompted for a password. I have never set or used a password in Calibre and have upgraded numerous times. Can anyone offer assistance?

Thanks

MALWARE, not Calibre or are you no longer an 'Administrator'?

You need 'Administrator' rights to install (upgrade) Calibre (non-portable)

I right clicked on command prompt to "run as administrator" - as soon as a try to run the msi program it prompts me for the password. When I check the properties of the file it says all have rights. Could Calibres download server be prompting me for the password?

@Marcus303 - AFAIK the only time Windows prompts for a password is when you logon.

Maybe you or your sysadm installed a 3rd party folder protection utility, and Program Files or some such has been password protected, in that case you might be prompted for password.

Where did you get the .msi file, the only safe place is here ==>> Download calibre

Try unpacking the msi, I use a free utility called lessmsi - aka as Lessmsierables

If it asks for password then that would suggest that the msi has been tampered with. If it doesn't that would suggest malware is interfering with the operation of Trusted Installer. IIRC that's one of the tricks that some of so-called 'ransomware' pests get up to.

I've never launched the calibre installer as Admin. I just run it as a usual user, and then answer Yes to the prompt to run as an elevated user.
