Thumbs up "The Third Side" - Battle for the Solar System, Book 2

All,

In case there are any fans of the original HONOUR OF THE KNIGHTS, the second book in the trilogy, THE THIRD SIDE, is now available for Amazon Kindle and Apple iBookstore.

You can find a list of places to buy here:

http://www.battleforthesolarsystem.com/books/thirdside/

as well as the first three chapters to sample (ePub, PDF, HTML and plain text).

[Edited - Promoting a different book - MODERATOR]

Steve

(note: for those new to the series, you should read KNIGHTS first, ideally the second edition, as the books are part of a large story arc and can't be read out of order).

Superb. Been looking forward to this

Many thanks!

Is it worth re-reading the revised first book before starting the second?

The second edition of KNIGHTS contains some added chapters, re-imagined scenes and some extended background information. It's also, in my own opinion, much better written than the first edition.

You can find some info on what's different here (warning - contains spoilers for the original HOTK):

http://www.stephenjsweeney.com/2011/...d-edition.html

Hope you enjoy the books!

question: is the re-write a separate book from the first edition, or would a buyer of the first edition be able to download the new edition without needing to re-buy it? (I haven't bought either, but I'm curious how the larger stores are treating updated content)

The Second Edition is a separate book, as it's a rewrite. The first and second editions are being treated as entirely separate. The second edition is what I consider to be a more definitive version of the story: I've added scenes, removed others, rewritten pretty much every chapter.

The most obviously example is that Kelly's journal is now written in the form of a memoir, so is a lot more expansive (it's also more consistent with books 2 and 3). There's also a new chapter called "What Natalia Saw", which reveals informations about her past. Dodds also talks more about Poppy Castro and Stefan Pitt...

and that scene where Estelle has to fetch Kelly from the dorm, so that she doesn't miss the patrol? Yeah, I always found that quite grating, so that's gone entirely..!

Compare the sample chapters of the first and second edition and you'll probably find yourself leaning towards the second

Cool! I'd be interested to hear what you think of it, compared to the first edition

Stephen, intrigued by this thread I went to your website, but the very first thing I saw was this:

Why irritate people with this message and not tell us which browser we should use instead to get the full, intended effect of your website?

What exactly are the 52% of your potential customers who use IE missing?

When I looked at my site in Internet Explorer, some of the style sheets and layouts were all messed up. It seems to be random: keep pressing F5 and it will right itself 1 time 10 or so.

I've looked at the site on a number of browsers (phones, included). I found it pretty annoying that the browser with the largest market share was rendering the site badly and didn't want visitors to get an immediate poor impression. So, I decided to just stick up the notice
