Deleted files still around

Help, I have a strange problem.

Is there any way to delete files left on computer after deleting them from Calibre?

I tried to delete them by hand but nothing happens, I even tried 'shift/del' to bypass the recycle bin, which also didn't work, they still sit there mocking me.

I'm using 'vista' with a sony 700. Those 2 work perfectly, it's just the files still sitting in the Calibre docs file, I can't get rid of.

I also now have lots of empty folders that also won't delete.

Should I have deleted them first before opening Calibre & removing them from the list?

Any thoughts?

If you cant even delete them by hand I'd suspect a permissions problem. Though the lack of an error message when you try to delete them is strange. Sounds like an OS level problem to me.
