Find in Tag Browser shortcut not working
I feel kind of stupid here, and frustrated. I'm just trying to set up a simple shortcut to do a find in the tag browser, but nothing works.
I've tried numerous options, just to be sure something else isn't catching it, but nothing will do the simple thing of putting my cursor in the tag browser find field. Calibre doesn't react at all to the various shortcuts I've tried. |

Use the Tag Browser 'Find next match' shortcut to set the focus to the tag browser search box, and the 'Find in the Tag browser' shortcut to find the next match if you haven't set the "Find shows all items that match" option in Preferences / Look & feel / Tag browser.
And yes, somehow the labels got interchanged. I will look at fixing that. I must work out how to change the labels without changing the meaning of the associated shortcuts. I don't want to break it in case anyone else has worked this out. |

@chaley - whilst you're looking into this you might want to try this, with the keyboard only
Show the Tag Browser, give the Tag Browser keyboard focus, Tab down to the last Category, and hit Tab again, it's not obvious to me where keyboard goes. If I press space:- Most times, keyboard focus returns to the book list in Grid mode (which I never use), and there's a Sort button to the left of the Search box. Aside: The Sort button icon is black which means its hard to see. If I press Tab again:- The keyboard focus returns to the book list without the mode change Occasionally I get this: Which is completely alien to me, I don't use it either. Now reset everything, hide the Tag Browser, return Book list to List Mode. Show the Tag Browser, give the Tag Browser keyboard focus, hit Shift+Tab, it's not obvious to me where keyboard goes - if I press space the Tag Browser Find box opens up. If I press Shift+Tab keyboard focus returns to the book list without the mode change. Given my druthers, I'd prefer: Tabs at bottom of the Category list give kb focus to the Configure button and then the Find button and then the top Category, and vice-versa for Shift+Tab at top of the Category list. And that the 'Give the Tag Browser keyboard focus' shortcut be a toggle between the Tag Browser and Book List. The only item that really annoys me is throwing the Book list into Grid mode, the rest I can live with. BR Last edited by BetterRed; 09-29-2021 at 07:09 PM. |

@BetterRed: following your example I see the focus changing to the grid view button, so "space" will push that button.
I am looking at how to keep Tab and Backtab from moving the focus out of the tab browser once it has the focus. I don't think this will break anything, and it is the only way I can see to prevent the Qt moving the focus wherever it wants. |

Both sets of changes are in calibre source and will be in the next release.
@BetterRed: the focus now 'sticks' at the last category when using Tab and the first category when using Backtab. |

Regarding the issue we discussed at this post. I'll respond here because it has nothing to do with the AC plug and socket. If anything metadata editing in the book list is a tad slower, but not enough to bother me. I noticed if I tab through Tags and Publisher without changing them the Modified date doesn't change and the opf in the book folder isn't re-written, However if I tab through Published without changing it, the Modified date changes to Now and the opf in the book folder is re-written. Same thing on a couple of custom columns: Another book list editing issue. If I have a long text HTML column in the book list (I cloak them with column icons), when I tab into it in edit mode the dialogue to change the text pops. I'm open to suggestions to prevent that, e.g. if you tab into a long text HTML cell in edit mode, you'll jump out of edit mode and you'll have to press F2 if you want to edit the cell. BR |

I submitted a new version. What I did yesterday didn't work if you tabbed through expanded children of a node.

Trying to detect the difference between entering edit mode by tabbing into a field vs hitting F2 in the field is a can of worms I don't want to open. |
