The Forgotten Man is the tenth in the Elvis Cole and Joe Pike series by Robert Crais. It has dropped to $1.99 at Kindle and Kobo US.

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/Forgotten-Man...dp/B000FC2RKO/
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/the-forgotten-man-4

Spoiler:
Quote:
In his major New York Times bestseller, The Last Detective, Robert Crais returned to his signature characters, private investigator Elvis Cole and his enigmatic partner, Joe Pike. Now Crais delivers a stunning, edge-of-your-seat suspense novel that leads Elvis to the very thing he’s always searched for— the dark secrets of his own life—as well as a brutal killer determined to stop him.

Los Angeles, 3:58 a.m.: Elvis Cole receives the phone call he’s been waiting for since childhood. Responding to a gunshot, the LAPD has found an injured man in an alleyway. He has told the officer on the scene that he is looking for his son, Elvis Cole. Minutes later, the man is dead.

Haunted throughout his life by a lack of knowledge about his father, Elvis turns to the one person who can help him navigate the minefield of his past— his longtime partner and confidant, Joe Pike. Together with hard-edged LAPD detective, Carol Starkey, they launch a feverish search for the dead man’s identity—even as Elvis struggles between wanting to believe he’s found his father at last and allowing his suspicions to hold him back. With each long-buried clue they unearth, a frightening picture begins to emerge about who the dead man might have been and the terrible secret he’s been guarding.

At the same time, Elvis has no way of knowing he has awakened a sleeping monster. The further he goes in his investigation, the closer he draws to a merciless killer who is violently connected to the unidentified man’s past. This psychopath believes Cole is hunting him, and he goes on the attack to find Elvis before Elvis can find him.

Summoning all the powerful elements that have made Robert Crais one of the preeminent crime writers today, The Forgotten Man is a spectacular tour-de-force of suspense and intrigue.

Solus is the 15th and most recent (few weeks ago) in the Gabriel Du Pré series by Peter Bowen. It has dropped to $1.99 at Kindle and Kobo US (coupon/VIPable).

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/Solus-Montana...dp/B078X4J5PF/
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/solus-2

Spoiler:
Quote:
Gabriel Du Pré is back in action, coming to the aid of a whistleblower on the run, in this all-new novel in a “wonderfully eclectic and enjoyable series” (Booklist).

When a hunted military whistleblower and his family need someplace to hide and someone to trust, Toussaint, Montana, is the place, and Gabriel Du Pré the man. The Métis Indian former cattle inspector and sometimes deputy is happy to offer protection, even though he’s already got his hands full with an ailing granddaughter, a meddling medicine man, and a Kazakh eagle hunter prowling the hills above town.

As a guard at a Kabul prison, Hoyt Poe witnessed his fellow soldiers abusing the Afghan inmates. Poe’s testimony threatens to expose the military contractor that led the prison’s brutal interrogation program. Now, Temple Security’s billionaire founder, Lloyd Cutler, wants him dead. But how long can the fugitive and his family lay low before Cutler’s mercenaries come to Du Pré’s hometown looking for trouble?

Packed with pulse-pounding suspense, wry humor, and the romance of small-town Montana, Solus continues the irresistible adventures of the one of a kind Gabriel Du Pré, “a character of legendary proportions” (New York Times–bestselling author Ridley Pearson).

Solus is the 15th book in the Montana Mysteries Featuring Gabriel Du Pré, but you may enjoy reading the series in any order.

A Lily of the Field is the 7th in the Inspector Troy series by John Lawton. It has dropped to $1.99 at Kindle and Kobo US (coupon/VIPable).

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/Lily-Field-In...dp/B0043VDQZS/
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/a-lily-of-the-field-4

Spoiler:
Quote:
Inspector Troy of Scotland Yard returns in “one of the best thrillers of the year” (Marilyn Stasio, The New York Times Book Review).

Spanning the tumultuous years 1934 to 1948, John Lawton’s A Lily of the Field is a brilliant historical thriller from a master of the form. The book follows two characters—Méret Voytek, a talented young cellist living in Vienna at the novel’s start, and Dr. Karel Szabo, a Hungarian physicist interned in a camp on the Isle of Man.

In his seventh Inspector Troy novel, Lawton moves seamlessly from Vienna and Auschwitz to the deserts of New Mexico and the rubble-strewn streets of postwar London, following the fascinating parallels of the physicist Szabo and musician Voytek as fate takes each far from home and across the untraditional battlefields of a destructive war to an unexpected intersection at the novel’s close. The result, A Lily of the Field, is Lawton’s best book yet, a historically accurate and remarkably written novel that explores the diaspora of two Europeans from the rise of Hitler to the post-atomic age.

“Lawton’s thrillers provide a vivid, moving and wonderfully absorbing way to experience life in London and on the Continent before, during and after World War II.” —The Washington Post

A slightly different selection of titles in this series are now on sale for $1.99 to $2.99 at Kindle and Kobo US (coupon/VIPable). The links below now pick up this new set of titles, in price-ascending order (and with a few strays)...

But since these are Open Road titles in the US, it's pretty likely the omnibus will go on sale itself sometime, and offer even better prices for those three books - up to you whether to wait for that or not.

Anyway, here are links for the Upton Sinclair/Lanny Budd titles that are on sale at each retailer, in price ascending order.

Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/search?qu...&sort=PriceAsc

Add: Also worth noting that Open Road titles still go on sale from time to time at $1.99 - just less often...

Several titles in the Inspector Troy thriller series by John Lawton are $1.99 at Kindle US, and some are matched at Kobo US, where they are couponable/VIPable. Some are recent drops, and a couple are older, but with this many titles, I'm just doing links for the bunch.

Titles at $1.99 at Kindle US include:
  • Black Out, #1
  • Old Flames, #2
  • A Little White Death, #3
  • Flesh Wounds, #5
  • A Lily of the Field, #7

At Kobo US, only #1, #3, and #7 seem to be on sale at the moment.

The links pick up a stray title from another Lawton series, Then We Take Berlin, also $1.99, and a couple other strays.

The Beast in the Red Forest is the fifth in the Inspector Pekkala series by Sam Eastland. It has dropped to £1.90 at Kindle US. An omnibus of the first three titles in this series was on sale a while back, and I keep meaning to read and see if I like this series, but haven't. Sigh!

link: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00FWY9VXG

Spoiler:
Quote:
A soldier returns from the frontline of battle to report that Pekkala's charred body has been found at the site of an ambush. But Stalin refuses to believe that the indomitable Pekkala is dead.

On Stalin's orders, Pekkala's assistant Kirov travels deep into the forests of Western Russia, following a trail of clues to a wilderness where partisans wage a brutal campaign against the Nazi invaders.

Unknown to Kirov, he is being led into a trap.

A new enemy has emerged from the fog of war, more deadly than any Kirov or Pekkala have ever faced before. Pursuing the legend of a half-human creature, said to roam the landscape of this war within a war, each step brings Kirov closer to the truth about Pekkala's disappearance.

Meanwhile, Pekkala's nemesis is also closing in for the kill.

Can't speak to typos or not...

L.A. Requiem is the 8th in the much nominated/awarded Elvis Cole/Joe Pike series by Robert Crais. It has dropped to $1.99 at Kindle US.

link: https://www.amazon.com/Requiem-Elvis...dp/B002IPZBTU/

Spoiler:
Quote:
“Terrific entertainment . . . A powerful portrait of Los Angeles in our time: swift, colorful, gripping, a real knockout.”—Dean Koontz

The day starts like any other in L.A. The sun burns hot as the Santa Ana winds blow ash from mountain fires to coat the glittering city. But for private investigator Joe Pike, the city will never be the same again. His ex-lover, Karen Garcia, is dead, brutally murdered with a gun shot to the head.

Now Karen's powerful father calls on Pike (a former cop) and his partner, Elvis Cole, to keep an eye on the LAPD as they search for his daughter's killer--because in the luminous City of Angels, everyone has secrets, and even the mighty blue have something to hide. But what starts as a little procedural hand-holding turns into a deadly game of cat-and-mouse. For a dark web of conspiracy threatens to destroy Pike and Cole's twelve-year friendship—if not their lives. And L.A. just might be singing their dirge.
