Oasis 2 vs Voyage dark room screen comparison
I've made 11 pictures of a Voyage and an Oasis 2 in a dark room at brightness levels 0, 1, 2, 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 21, and 24.
The Voyage is from a few weeks after initial release and it is running firmware 5.6.1 which is neither the initial nor the current version. I am not yet aware of Voyage firmware affecting screen brightness or light distribution. It may be that newer Voyage hardware has less blue in the front light, so these images may be most useful for owners of older Voyages considering an Oasis 2. The Oasis 2 is from release day. It was immediately put in airplane mode and has not been updated from the initial firmware version 5.9.0.6 Post #19 in this thread shows the 5 darkest settings for the Oasis 2 in inverted black and white mode next to a Voyage set at brightness 3. Post #41 in this thread has a video of the Oasis 2 flashing in inverted black and white mode. Code:
File name Exposure Time F-Number voyage_oasis_dark_b00.jpg 1 sec. f/2.8 voyage_oasis_dark_b01.jpg 1 sec. f/2.8 voyage_oasis_dark_b02.jpg 1 sec. f/2.8 voyage_oasis_dark_b03.jpg 1 sec. f/2.8 Last edited by j.p.s; 12-07-2017 at 12:15 AM. What firmware are you running on your Voyage? It looks like an older one, based on the way the light is adjusted.

I am waiting for JB to be available to even think about changing it. Unless the individual LEDs can be controlled by software, I don't think the light distribution depends on version. Do you think the light distribution changed on the voyage with firmware? I guess it is a possibility. Last edited by j.p.s; 11-21-2017 at 08:40 PM. My new Voyage light adjustment screen looks nothing like yours. Mine looks like the Oasis.

great pics. thanks for sharing.
it continues to astound me how much variability there is in screen uniformity, color, etc. on the different models and different units within the same model. i took delivery on a Voyage last week expecting to have a cooler white but hopefully very uniform based on what i had read here, but when it arrived, it was pretty close to the creamy white of my Oasis and Paperwhite with the top half of the screen being a strong yellow/orange tone. |

thanks j.p.s. , this is very helpful.
I'm surprised as it looks like the (second) lowest brightness of Oasis is much higher than voyage. I often read on lowest setting on my paper white, and if I can't go so far down on Oasis anymore, it would be a bummer. Would you be able to do the same comparison between Voyage and Oasis in inverted mode, for the lowest brightness settings? |

Sorry I completely misread your question and saw Oasis instead of Voyage. I've updated my initial post to clarify device age and firmware version for both.

Do you have reason to believe that the firmware version affect light distribution? It may be the newer Voyages use screen technology the same as or similar to the new Oasis. Is your Voyage screen blueish or yellowish in a dark room? |
