4dots.com is a domain that belongs to us - we use it to store our static content such as images, javascript and css files on a CDN. The reason why we're using 4dots.com and not mobileread.com is because this way requests are cookie-less. For an explanation see here.

Oh, yes about that. Some people use ad blocker or script blockers that automatically disable Javascript scripts that don't origin from the same host (mobileread.com) that is being visited. The scripts were previously on mobileread.com are part of the forum software to provide extra functionality like the drop down menus.

I think roger was referring to that stoimen.com blog, that had an interesting article about why static content like images should be served from a cookie-less domain. Roger, if you Google, there are plenty of other articles on that topic, if you are interested.
