Do you think it might be better not to mention any age at all, and let the reader decide how old they are? It's not explicit stuff, but I do need a female character to take her clothes off so that a male character can see some bruises, and the logical way to do that would be in some sort of mild sex scene. The bruises are important to what they both do later.
