a smart defence lawyer could have fun with this. where exactly IS the copyright infringing game when gaming is in-progress - on the kindle, or on the server, or half & half....

If you're worried about breaching copyright, play the free games at the Interactive Fiction archive. All the games that are written in the Inform language will run on the same interpreters that will play the Infocom games. There are tons of them - far more than Infocom ever released - and some of them are exceptionally good.

Not really. The files might not be actually on your Kindle but you're still doing something you shouldn't be.

If you like to play chess on your Kindle WiFi try the following link:

It looks just fine and is very playable on my Kindle 3.

Sometimes with earlier games there's been so many psedo copies it would be next to impossible to sue everyone.

How many knock offs have we seen of say..Tetris and Asteroids?

If you type in "play zork zero" you'll get plenty of google responses.
You can't "clone" interactive fiction without infringing copyright. The mechanics have been re-used over and over (see the Inform engine), but IF is nothing without the story itself, which is copyrighted.

For those complaining that the kindle shouldn't play games, it might interest some to know that these types of games were originally targeted to people who like to read (in other words, they were sold in bookstores) which is partly the reason why they did so well.

Thanks wikipedia!! ha ha!
