Dictionaries and Indexes on K Fire and K Touch

I've received my new Kindles and am upset.

Fire does not fully support Mobipocket dictionaries and indexes. On Fire, you can't access a dictionary's index and can't input any text to search its index (you can search the text).

The text search on Fire is also much much slower than on its epaper cousins. Apparently, it doesn't pre-index the books as is done on other hardware Kindles.

Kindle Touch does allow you to search dictionary's "Index Items" but the process is much more cumbersome than on Kindle 3.

So, in short, using dictionaries or OSNOVA Bibles (that extensively use the index function) is impossible on Fire and difficult on Touch.

Am I missing something?

Osnova,

The dictionary, which comes with the Kindle Fire, is indexed and presents a definition immediatly if one does the long hold on any word.

However, one cannot change that dictionary like on the 3rd Generation Kindle Keyboard.

Also, the Tecarta Bibles and Resources come installed already fully indexed and provide almost instanteous location of phrases and Bible verses. By the way, Tecarta offers the NIV and the NIV Study Bible which I purchased from them. Both are fully indexed and synced with each other if one displays them in landscape with each displayed parallel in two different windows. I can also sync their KJV with either of the other books and look at both at the same time in the two column landscape display.

That may be the reason why Zondervan never allowed their NIV to have Direct Verse Jump. They probably were already developing their Android Index which was to be sold with the Bibles and Resources.

Tecarta offers ALL their Bibles and Resources FREE if one has WiFi available for viewing. All have been fully indexed and can be instantly searched and synced with other resources. They only charge if one wants to download them to the Device to use if WiFi is not available.

The Logos App for the Kindle Fire also has it's books indexed within the Android App on installation but is still in beta development and does not have most of the features of the Tecarta Bibles available yet. They are working on it as we speak.

Your Bibles are the best around with Direct Verse Jump for the 3rd Generation Kindle. Neither Tecarta nor Logos have even attempted to compete with you in that medium.

Its possible that the indexing systems for Logos and Tecarta are implemented differently than yours. They may index internally within the Android App. Tecarta may install pre-indexed. Logos indexes during the installation and pops a message that it is indexing. However, the Tecarta pre-index is far faster for searches than the Logos indexing upon installation.

I tried YouVision and some other Bible Apps but none come close to Tecarta in my opinion.

I believe on the 3rd Generation Kindle Keyboard your Bibles and Resources indexed after the installion on the Kindle, itself. I remember that the NET Bible took an overnight indexing. Tecarta does not show any sign of indexing on the installation but everything is immediately accesible by their pre-index before its even installed.

It works just like the stock Android app or K4PC.

sirmaru,

The Android Bible apps are a different animal from Kindle ebooks. Their features (or lack thereof) have nothing to do with Kindle software.
