Samsung to roll out Ice Cream Sandwich update to tablet line
Though a little late, Samsung has finally rolled out its OS updates to their Galaxy line of tablets.
According to TechRadar, Samsung has informed them that “Samsung UK can confirm the roll out of the Android 4.0 ice cream sandwich update for the Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus WiFi and Galaxy Tab 10.1 WiFi devices is live. Any further updates for the Galaxy Tab range will be announced in due course.” If you own a Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 and Galaxy tab 7.0, then you can upgrade your operating system by connecting your device to your desktop or laptop computers and use the Kies desktop software or you can directly download the update to tablet via over-the-air. Unfortunately, the Ice Cream Sandwich update is only currently applicable to UK residents with US possibly coming very soon. A lot of individuals have questioned Samsung as to their slow update progress. Other tablet manufacturers have even began rolling out new tablets powered by Google’s latest Android 4.1 Jelly Bean OS. http://technewsgadget.net/2012/08/sa...o-tablet-line/ |

Just to note that the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 line already had ICS on them.
I sure wish they used more distinct names for their tablets. It makes things really confusing sometimes. |

Samsung has always been slow to get updates out, just ask folks who use their Android phones.

I wonder if this is for removing possible patent-infringing code from the devices?

That's usually the case with most manufacturers (aside from the nexus line, I think). Well, from my experience, anyways. My HTC's have always been terrible when it comes to official updates (but the developers side of things on XDA is generally fantastic).

Samsung's Phones outside of the US had the updates long before they became available in the states. Thats due to the carriers not Samsung. they are late with the tablet updates but thats more to do with the nature of the production cycle versus the relative ease at which a new Android flavor can be produced

I know several people with Samsung phones here in the UK; they all got ICS updates quite a while ago.
