Goodreads metadata, configuration
I find goodreads.com one of the most complete resources for finding covers and synopses of books.

Is it possible for me to add that website as a source for downloading covers and meadata? If yes, please explain how to do that.

If not possible for end users to change the list, could it possibly be added in one of future program updates?

There is already a Goodreads Metadata Source plugin. You can install it from the Plugins section of the calibre preferences, or it is available from the Plugins sub-forum here.
