I just let calibre do the maintaining/converting. I just press the "send to device" button.

Going from a Kindle 1 to the new GDX is fantastic. Can't speak to the DX because I haven't seen the screen on the original DX but this is miles apart. I have no regrets and have already loaded my books and some PDF files I had and it's just everything I need in a reader. I am totally satisfied.

I am extremely impressed by the KDXG screen. It has significantly better contrast than any eInk screen I own. Just wish it supported library books out of the box without stripping and converting.

I have a Sony 505 and a DX ( white) and the Sony screen beats the Kindle hands down. I would be interested in the screen on the new one but cant justify having 3 readers ( trying to justify 2!)

I have a 505 and a 600 and the KDXG is significantly better than either of the Sonys. I do agree that the 505 is better than the previous smaller Kindles but it's the same as my original KDX.

Kindle DXG is much better in sunlight than the 505. My 505 would be "washed out" if I loaded a page in direct sunlight (maybe because I bought it used?). The kindle dxg is spectacular in direct sunlight.

The good thing about the pearl screen is that there have not been any made by LG with the screen fade issue.

I am totally loving the idea of bying this new Kindle. Especially, now that they are shipping internationally and the device also has 3G.
But my apprehensions about DRM and the ability to put my my own books on it remain. If I can get those cleared I will definitely go for this than PRS-900. |

As a new owner of the K DXG and a former or current owner of every Sony Reader (except the old 500) and some other readers as well, I can definitely state that the K DXG does indeed blow all of them out of the water! No question in my mind that this is the clearest e-Ink screen I've ever seen and has the darkest text. Plus it is easy to modify for custom fonts. I use Arial Rounded MT Bold and it is easy to read even in dim light. ... Last edited by jswinden; 07-23-2010 at 04:53 PM. |

That attached photo shows nothing about hood good the screen is on the DXG. It's just a B&W screen grab.

I compared, side-by-side, Sony PRS-505, BN Nook, and my new DXG. Let's just say, I put the 505 back in storage, and returned the Nook... Really love the DXG screen, and the size is spot-on.
