Amazon $1.99 Weekend Deal - Flowers for Algernon
And the winner is.... Flowers for Algernon by Daniel Keyes. Price dropped from $7.99 to $1.99 until Sunday. This will probably get a price match everywhere else tomorrow, so you can check your favourite storefront for it. In case you grew up on Mars and have never heard of this:

Vote for next weekend's $1.99 deal here. The Nomination looks good, but you could vote for one of the others if you insist. |

Sounds like a good deal. I can remember reading the story in high school. I can't recall if I read the short story or novel length version when in school but I do remember it. Cliff Robertson played the main character in the movie version.

Thank you, Synamon! I'm on a binge of reading/rereading the past Hugo awarded books, so this deal comes at the perfect time.

It is touching and poignant, but a very good read.
The short story is, IMHO, much more powerful than the later novelization. |

Not too awful, if you can pair it with one of the 35%-45% off coupons.

A truly heartbreaking book. I think it's a great book, but one I find difficult to read.

I read it many years ago, but I'm fairly certain I read the older novella version rather than the full-length novel offered by Amazon, as I read it as part of an anthology. It was definitely an excellent story, truly heartbreaking as described above. I've now purchased the full-length novel from Amazon, and it's now on my Kindle for future reading.
Thanks for the information! SteveK |

BBC's A Good Read discussed it recently. One of the greatest SF stories of all time.
