Calibre content Server and Excel

Well,
let me explain a little bit. For various reason if have my Calibre Book stock parallel in an Excel sheet. I do this by exporting the database into a CSV file and importing this into Excel. I have this nearly automated as Excel checks when opening the csv file for changes and if so it adjusts my Excel sheet with additions, changes, etc.

No i wonder if i can skip this csv exporting and connect Excel directly with the Calibre Content server local. Excel can do this with MySQL servers and a lots of other external sources.
Is there a way with Calibre content server?

Thanks
Thomas

The calibre metadata.db is a sqlite database, so do whatever you want I guess.

Just keep in mind that if you modify the database it is your job to make sure you don't break it horribly.

...

Does the calibre export take too long or something? Because you can just script it you know.

@Thomas_AR - try this ==>> SQLiteForExcel

I know nothing about it, other than it exists.

Save caveat as previous post re modifying the db. I would take a snapshot copy of metadata.db and have Excel/VBA use that.

Hm..did not thought about the danger which a direct connection to the Calibre DB means. I think i stay with the method of exporting it to an csv file.

Scripting the procedure? Interesting...where can i finde more information about that?
Thanks
