Kobo Aura in Macbook M1
Hey, I know this is a recurring problem, but I could not find a fix. Recently got a M1 mac and my kobo aura will not show up in finder. I could only get it to charge, so I bought a USB 2.0 to USB C cable, and now the device recognizes that it is plugging into the computer and goes into the file transfer mode, but it still does not show up in Finder or calibre. Any ideas that don't involve 100 euro hubs?

All I can say is that I have Mac Mini and a USB Hub.
It works if I plug my Kobo in the Mac mini, but not in the USB Hub. I guess my Hub is only USB 3. Too bad other Mac M1 models don't have regular USB. |

Where are you buying a 100€ USB hub? Looking at amazon.fr, I see quite a few USB hubs for 0.01€ though most of those are 3.99€ and up for shipping. Perhaps one such as Speedlink SNAPPY Slim USB Hub, 4-Port, USB 2.0, Passif, would fit your needs.

Is there a setting in OSX to support legacy USB hardware?

The only solution I have seen for this problem is to purchase an old USB 2.0 hub and connect your Kobo that way. (https://imgur.com/gallery/wuGmFN8) Have you tried again after rebooting your Mac? That can reset the USB chain. |

Is any of this due to some setting(s) with Big Sur?

If you don't need Kobo Desktop, you can upload books over FTP (and use NickelMenu to force a rescan).
If you do need Kobo Desktop, you might be able to trick it into using the remote device with osxfuse and sshfs, but I'm not sure if that'll work, especially on a M1. If you use Calibre heavily, @sherman's Kobo-UNCaGED might be a good option for you. |
